Yet Another Related Posts Plugin 1.5 (9 posts)

  1. I've just released version 1.5 of YARPP... the big new feature is "auto display"... if you install YARPP for the first time now, you will get a nice "Recent Posts" display in all your single entry (permalink) pages without any theme tweaking. This should be very helpful for many users.

If you don't want to use the default display, turn off "auto display" in the options (now moved to Options, where it should be) and drop related_posts() or similar code into your theme. If you are upgrading from a previous version, YARPP should autodetect this and start with "auto display" off. If you have problems after switching to YARPP 1.5 (like all your settings being gone), I recommend deactivating and reactivating the plugin.

For those of you who are interested, tags and categories are going into the relatedness algorithm in the upcoming update, 2.0. Stay tuned.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I'm hoping to make this a strong, easy to use yet versatile plugin for everyone, helping cross-linking, SEO, and—of course—readers.

I see you've moved the plugin settings page under Options tab. But the address of the tab link is wrong. Currently it's - http://www.blogurl.com/wp-admin/yarpp/options.php instead of http://www.blogurl.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=yet-another-related-posts-plugin/options.php

  3. @iliand — this is a function of the directory name. I just released a fix, version 1.5.1. I hope that helps.

Hello, upgraded to the latest version (v1.5.1). Under the Show excerpt part, you have "Excerpt length (no. of words)":, and you choose "10" for example. I do not know if I am doing something wrong but it is showing "10 characters" and not "10 words". So you will see "Hello Samm" which is 10 characters, instead of a longer sentence.

  5. @cryogenn — I just noticed that while working on 2.0 as well... it's a carry over bug from the previous Related Entries plugins. It'll be fixed in the future... but I can ask you, which do you think is a more user-friendly preference: maximum number of words or maximum number of characters?

Thanks for the report and in advance for your input—

mitchoyoshitaka, what happens if I install YARPP in different named directory (eg. /plugins/yarpp/)? Will it still work? I do not have a test installation to test the plugin.

  7. @iliand, yes, that will work, but you can just install 1.5.1 which takes care of it for once and for all.

@mitchoyoshitaka - For me personally, I would go with number of words. It is just easier to count and easier for the mind (my mind at least) to do a quick word count, instead of having to count characters and guessing if it will include "spaces" or "punctuation marks" or not in that calculation. Where as with words, people can usually agree on what is a word, and hence I think using words would be easier.
