So I've been through this before, I've read all of the standard "my WP was hacked" links. I wiped my public_html directory, downloaded WP 3.5.1, installed, and my blog is still a hacked page. Does that mean the malicious code is in my database? I have a copy of everything that I exported through the WordPress dashboard. Before I wipe my database I just want to make sure I have the right steps to set all of that back up again.

Yes. If not the files, then the db (which if access is still available to said hack, one needs to change the password on to a very secure one)

OK, so if I have a backup from the WordPress dashboard, is it safe to wipe the DB? Any links to how exactly to do this?

  4. Best thing to do is work your way through the resources below and follow all instructions.

You could an WXR export of your posts, pages, etc, and that will give you a mostly clean start with a clean isntall of WP, but you still need to scan posts for bad code. If you have a full database backup, you have to scan the database.

See FAQ: My site was hacked « WordPress Codex and How to completely clean your hacked wordpress installation and How to find a backdoor in a hacked WordPress and Hardening WordPress « WordPress Codex.

Change all passwords. Scan your own PC. Use http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ before and after.

Thanks. I went ahead and wiped the database and did a completely fresh install, then imported my WP backup. I'll scan the posts, there are a lot of them, thankfully not a lot of code in any. Overall not a terribly painful process.
