yearly drop-downs with monthly archives (7 posts)

I would like to get a plug-in that would create a simple drop-down menu for each year. The drop-down menu would display something like "Browse 2004 archives" and would list the months.

I know there is code that will put all the archives -- in whatever format, yearly, monthly, whatever -- in one drop-down menu, but I want to have separate drop-downs for each year.

    Can anyone help?

I tried posting this in the Trouble-shooting section with no response, so maybe I posted it in the wrong place. Hence I'm trying it here.

I'm so confused. What have I done wrong that no one has anything to say? It seems like this would be a simple thing for someone who understands PHP and forms better than I do, but not so simple that there's already a plugin for it -- at least I haven't found it. If there is one, have pity and tell me about it.

Questions like this can sometimes take several days to produce even a partial query or answer. Everyone here is a volunteer; all have lives other than "living" here. If you don't get a response in three or four days, you could post again IN THE SAME THREAD (DON'T post a new one!). As it happens now, you've trashed the fact that your question hadn't had an answer by replying to yourself. Many of the most savvy coders look first for posts with no answers.

    Patience is a virtue.

Drat. I didn't mean to sound impatient -- I really was sincerely puzzled, because some threads seem to get answers so quickly, even just a "that sounds interesting, let me work on it and get back to you" type thing. I'm new to WP and wanted to make sure I really wasn't missing something obvious or otherwise making some stupid faux pas. So instead the faux pas was to post again. Oops. Well, thanks for clarifying.

Well, thing is, what you're asking isn't something the "normal run" of poster here is going to know. You're waiting on someone like podz or skippy.... someone who knows php and tweaks (and believe me when I tell you I am NOT one of them....)

So this is one of those cases where you might not get a viable answer for quite some time....

I'm going to bump this, as I'd love to do the same thing. If anybody knows??!

    Thanks!

Code for generating a yearly archive link list can be found in this thread:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/39204

You'd only need to change it to an options list and incorporate it into the type of javascript used with the get_archives() dropdown list:
