[resolved] YARPP on pages in sidebar, even when turned off in settings? (7 posts)

Hey mitcho, I'm using the latest version of YARPP, v4.0.3.

When I change the yarpp settings so that Related content only displays on posts and not pages, all works fine. But there seems to be a bug when using the yarpp sidebar widget.

Even though my yarpp settings are such that related content displays for posts only, when I'm using the yarpp main sidebar widget I still get the Related content being displayed on my pages (in the sidebar area only).

Also, it would be great if we could choose the title for the yarpp sidebar widget to be different from the one chosen in the yarpp settings. So that at the bottom of our pages/posts it can say 'Related Content' (or whatever you choose) and then at the same time in the Sidebar it could say something different like 'Also Check out' (for example).

    Thanks for your help.

The widget is completely separate, in that its contexts for display are not limited by what you choose in the "display options" section in the YARPP settings.

If you want to limit where the widget is displayed, I suggest you use a general widget-display-controlling plugin, like Widget Context, which I've personally had a good experience with:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-context/

As for the title of the sidebar widget, this is controllable in the widget's options if you're using the "List" option... is that not what you're doing? If you're using a custom template, you should be able to modify things there.

    Hey mitcho,

I installed the Widget Context plugin and that works perfectly!

Unfortunately I am using the 'Thumbnails' option in the yarpp sidebar widget which does not give me the option of controlling the title being displayed. Please can you let me know how to go about customizing the title when using thumbnail view. (p.s. my coding skills are limited, and I don't really know php)

Thanks for your help mitcho, yarpp is an awesome plugin!

@cherry0 Being able to specify the title of the widget for the thumbnail view makes sense to me, so I just added it to the plugin in this beta:

    http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/yet-another-related-posts-plugin.4.0.4b4.zip

Please give it a try. I hope it works as expected!

I hope to push this release soon, so if you notice anything strange, please let me know.
