    Hello everyone

This question is regarding folder size at the Server.

I used to take weekly backup of my website and I use “CPanel -> Backups -> Download and Generate a full Site Backup” option.

In past the whole .tar.gz file size used to be 40MB+ but now suddenly it has increased to 82MB.

3 days back it was 66MB and after 3 days it was 82 MB which was completely non-understandable.

I checked the download .gz file and took a look at all files/folders to know which is occupying so much size and found following:

I found a file site_name.com which is taking 946 MB space in “logs” folder.

I got surprised to see its size and since the location is “logs” folder, I can’t understand whether the file is necessary or not?

So experts! Please help in this matter and let me know:

    1. What might be the reason behind so much increment in the file size of site_name.com file in “logs” folder?

    2. Is this file necessary or can be delete without any worries?

Any kind of help would be much appreciated. 🙂

  • Speak to your webhosts, pretty confident this isn’t a WordPress issue.

Thanks for the reply but can you please provide some details about this problem? Is it a known problem? Should the “logs” folder contain the file with such huge size?

Logs can get huge over time, you’d have to view them and identify why they are large.

^^ But still my question is unanswered. If its a normal log file, is it absolutely safe to delete?

    Thanks.

Ask your hosts. This isn’t a WordPress issue.

^^ Thanks for your answer. I just wanted to investigate a bit and collect some useful information before asking them.

Almost all of us here run our blogs using WordPress and some of them at least can check the mentioned file size and post here whether its normal or not.

Also I know this forum has so many experts who must be knowing some possible reasons behind such huge size of this file and is the file safe to delete or not.

It’s specific to your hosts, so it’s highly unlikely that someone will have experienced exactly the same problem using the same hosts.

No-one without viewing the log files can tell you whether they should be that size or not. We;d need a lot more information before we could even assess that.

You seem reticent about speaking to your web hosts, I know not why. But this is not a WordPress issue.
