XML Sitemap - Google Webmaster errors (5 posts)

    Hi,

    I recently installed and ran the plugin to create a sitemap. /sitemap_index.xml works fine but there are some errors in Google Webmaster Tools I'm trying to resolve.

    Sitemap Errors
    It says I have 4 sitemaps that are getting 404s...they're all custom stuff from either the theme I'm using (called Avada) or from a plugin called Edit Flow. They are faq_category-sitemap.xml, /pec_events_category-sitemap.xml, /portfolio_category-sitemap.xml, and /post_status-sitemap.xml. I've tried excluding them in the XML settings but they are still showing up in webmaster tools.

    Index Errors
    I'm getting 6 counts of this error: An invalid date was found. Please fix the date or formatting before resubmitting.

    It says the lastmod values for these 6 occurrences have a date of 1969...not sure where in the sitemap those instances are, or how to fix them.

    Any ideas? Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    I am seeing the same issue. I am excluding all taxonomies from the XML sitemap configuration. Using version 1.5.2.7. Not sure why it's including the empty xml file.

    Put this in your functions.php, that should do the trick.

    function sitemap_exclude_taxonomy( $value, $taxonomy ) {
    	if ( 'post_status' == $taxonomy )
    		return true;
    }

    add_filter( 'wpseo_sitemap_exclude_taxonomy', 'sitemap_exclude_taxonomy', 10, 2 );
