Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » XML Sitemap fatal error – over 2000 posts the issue?

  • This has been working fine for weeks, although it doesn’t generate a sitemap to save in the folder itself as I’ve had to do that manually (why is this?)

However, today I’ve spotted a fatal error. I have 2102 posts in the sitemap, and more to add but it’s not playing ball. I set the limit at 3000, but even reducing that to 2500 or 2200 hasn’t made a difference.

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 71827456) (tried to allocate 2743051 bytes) in /homepages/33/d38555637/htdocs/dvd-fever/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1033

    Can someone help, please?

  • Hi,

You set your page limit on the XML Sitemaps tab to 2000-3000?

    That is way to high.

    Entries per page
Please enter the maximum number of entries per sitemap page (defaults to 1000, you might want to lower this to prevent memory issues on some installs):

Max entries per sitemap page: 3000

Just to be clear, this is what you are setting to 3000?

If so, you should really only put a small number like 100. This number is how many entries the plugin will put on 1 page. This means the plugin will generate around 200 xml pages for you (2000/100), with an index xml page pointing to each one.

You might get away with a higher number, but I kept running into memory issues as well, I found 100 worked for me reliably.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I saw it gives me individual pages (it’s about 22 for just under 2200 URLs, as it turns out) but then Google’s Webmaster Tools just wants one sitemap.xml file, so how do I give it that, please?

    [ No bumping please. ]
