XFN link question V.1.0

I am using the 1.0 Platinum release.
When adding a test link today, I selected the XFN radio button for “friend.” As I understand it, this should write a hyperlink like this:

But it does not do this. As well, nothing shows up in the REL field in the ADD LINKS GUI form. Another thing I tested was this–I typed “acquaintence” into the REL field on the input form, then selected the XFN “friend” button. When I checked the link, the REL attribute was “acquaintence” like I had typed in.
So, unless I’m doing something wrong, which is not unknown :)… there is something goofy going on with the XFN support in WP.
