    Joe,
Looks pretty sweet! You can put a blurb about your hacks in the WordPress Wiki, if you like!
Here is the link to the page.
Thanks for making these, Joe, and thank you for sharing them with the community!
    Craig.

i just installed it, works perfectly. only one small issue: it's not compatible with the "grins" hack, the one which adds a quicktag icon row to easily add smileys to the text. i think it's because the grins hack doesn't find the correct textarea anymore. would be great if those two plugins would work together, so the ultimative editing environment is possible :-)

Lilandra: Yes it works great in Mozilla(that's the browser I use most of the time). I didn't want to contribute to Microsoft's evil empire by using yet another IE-only wysiwyg interface ;-)
Anonymous: Are you using an old version of Mozilla? I just now tested this in Mozilla Firebird 0.7 and it worked fine.

Everything seems to be in working order w/ this hack, except 3 issues:
    1. when i have a draft & attempt to delete, it opens up a page w/ "error in deleting..." in the top left corner. I am unable to get rid of this draft. Something do w/ permissions?
    2. It is VERY slow in posting some longer posts. It didn't do this in simple look
    3. at the bottom of the advanced writing screen, in the Custom Fields section, I get the following error written in the box:
Database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ORDER BY meta_key,meta_id' at line 4]
    SELECT meta_key, meta_value, meta_id, post_id FROM wp_postmeta WHERE post_id = ORDER BY meta_key,meta_id
Many thanks to the growing community!

Yes, I can remember deleting posts from within the writing screen rather than being forced to go to the edit screen and deleting posts from the list of posts.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Do you have this packaged as anything other than .rar?

    Great job Joe.
I found an HtmlArea hack yesterday that might sound interesting to you:
The problem with HtmlArea (v3.0-RC1) is that it produces (only on Mozilla though) span tags instead of strong & em, and that means of course bye bye semantics, since what we want to do with a wysiwyg editor is create & structurate a content, not design it. Now look at this workaround…
I just quickly tested it, and it seems to work great.

Thanks Joe for the cool hack. It's great when people like yourself (who have a clue what they're doing, unlike me... ha!) contribute to the WordPress community.
I am wondering, is there any way to have this hack and the "MarkDown" plug-in working at the same time? I was starting to get used to using "MarkDown" and wouldn't mind being able to use it at the same time. I bet I'm asking too much though, yes?
Anyway... thanks again for the hack, it's appreciated!

If you're using Mozilla, there's always Composite. Doesn't require any hacks to WordPress.

This is a great plugin, Joe. Really easy installation (way to include the replacement PHP file) with no errors on a 1.2 Mingus install.

I went to get this to install, but the links don't seem to be working -- is anyone else having this problem? Is there an alternate place I might be able to get the 1.2 version?

    Files are back up :-)
Just use the links in the first post in this thread.

When I try to open the .rar I get this error:
An error has occurred while expanding the file "wysiwyg hack 1.1.rar" (Format error). Error #17540
    Any ideas?

I am sad to say that I finally had to un-install this hack as it is not compatible with the "ieSpell" program. It took me a while to figure out why there was a problem, but I did.
If you try to use the spell checker without switching to code view first, it doesn't work correctly, and you'll get weird characters in your final published output. I nearly went off the deep end trying to figure out where these invisible to the eye characters were coming from.
Oh well... back to the running board.

My website has been done by hand since the beginning of time. I'm just now testing out WP and LOVING it. I've got the WYSIWYG installed, but I'm having a big problem with copying my posts over from my old site.
Since everything was done by hand, I have to do a cut and paste. When I publish the entries, I get stuff that looks like this:
"I so did not want to come back to work this morning. So much so that I didn’t hear my alarm go off after I hit the snooze button the first time and I slept in until almost 8:30. That’s pretty bad when I leave the house by no later than 8:10 to get to work on time!"
Those accented A's just won't go away! I have to go back into each entry, backspace to the period and go from there. I've been working on one entry now for like an hour trying to get it fixed and it's driving me crazy!

raspberryvixen: Would you mind posting the URL for the site you are copying and pasting from? I'll give it a look and see what's going wrong.

The site I'm copying and pasting stuff in is my original site... http://wildrose.rpgraphics.net.
I've had to uninstall the WYSIWYG 'cause it was driving me up a wall.
But now I find that in copying some other stuff over, I'm STILL getting those damn accented a's!
And here I thought getting myself a content management system would be EASY! ;)
