Isn't the blog or even the pages in wordpress supposed to have a "written by author" in it so people can tell who wrote it?

This is completely dependent on the theme being used -- some include the information, others don't, others include it only if there are multiple authors on a site (but assume that if there's only one author, everyone knows who it is.)
