WPTouch - inconsistent display on mobile devices (12 posts)

I loaded WPTouch to my site, but it's invariably a mess. Sometimes the home page displays the mobile setting on various ipPhones and tablets; other times, it's the site setting; other times it's just bare text; and it's also a lottery for various pages - mobile vs. site. Your results may vary.

My site does have W3 Total Cache -- so I cut/pasted all the user agents into the various caches to try to minimize conflicts. I also cleared the caches. All this seemed to help, but not enough - and the experience was just frustratingly inconsistent. Good days and bad days with seemingly no changes at my end. Any suggestions? These are the agents:

    Hi,

Thank you for the information. If you have included custom user agents in the WPtouch admin panel, those will need to be excluded in W3TC as well.

Please let us know what caching methods you have enabled, page caching, browser caching, etc., and experiment deactivating browser cache Then, clear all caches to see if that helps.

Thanks. I made sure all the user agents matched up in WPTouch and W3. All caching methords enabled - page, minify, database, object, browser. NOT CDN, though I did add the user agents to the relevant box anyway.

Cleared all caches - now it's worse! home page on iphone gives a mobile setting menu at the top, but it does not drop down or do anything.

From our documentation on how to set up caching plugins for use with mobile devices:

Note: It is required to have “Browser Cache” disabled in W3 Total Cache as there is currently no option to exclude user agents from that caching method.

    1. Go to the “Page Cache” settings under the Performance tab.
    2. Copy the list of mobile user agents found in our list of “User agent list for configuring cache plugins“.
If you have added support for additional mobile devices in WPtouch, you must also include those user agents in the “Rejected User Agents” area in W3 Total Cache.
    3. Scroll down to the “Rejected User Agents” field and paste the list of WPtouch default user agents, adding one per line. Save your changes.
    4. Go to the “Minify” settings under the Performance tab.
Scroll down to the “Rejected User Agents” field and paste the list of WPtouch default user agents, adding one per line. Save your changes.
    5. Go to the “CDN” settings under the Performance tab.
Scroll down to the “Rejected User Agents” field and paste the list of WPtouch default user agents, adding one per line.
      Save your changes.
    6. Finally, go to the “General Settings” under the Performance tab and select “Empty All Caches”.
    7. Your site should now be configured correctly to work with WPtouch and W3 Total Cache.

Thank you ... seems to work on Nexus, at least; don't have iphone with me, alas. Would be weird if the issue was a separate line for each user agent. Alas, also, disabling browser cache cuts my gtmetrix page speed to 34% from 100% ...

Back to Square 1 as of today. This unreliable plugin is more trouble than it's worth - now deactivated.

As caching has little to do with WPtouch, beyond providing guidelines for setup, we are unable to provide additional support for third-party products and services. If one caching plugin or service isn't working well with your WordPress configuration, we recommend contacting the developer and/or trying another.

We are testing a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 with a mobile app that displays a wptouch page. This works fine on iOS, but I am guessing that the user agent for this new device is not in the list for wptouch or w3tc?

Can you please advise on which agent list we should be using?
