wp_posts table crashing when editing old posts... (4 posts)

Helo, i upgraded my server to MySQL 4.1 (from 3.x) and PHP 5.0.4 (from 4.x) the other day, and all seemed to go well on all of my various databases (wordpress, invision power board, etc.)...

but i noticed today that whenever i try to edit a post that was created prior to the SQL upgrade, 2 things happen...

one it will not edit the content
and two, it crashes the wp_posts table

it's really annoying and i'm not quite sure what to do to fix it...

i've run a complete repair on the entire wordpress database, it didn't find anything (other than the crashed wp_posts, which happens when i edit an older post, then i repair it and it's fine again).

i can create new posts, edit them, and then delete them, no problem...

Can you elaborate a bit on this part please?

one it will not edit the content
and two, it crashes the wp_posts table

What, specifically, sort of errors or messages are you seeing for those situations?

when i edit the content of the post, it acts as though it normally would when you edit something (say add a link, or bold, etc.), but when it reloads it's reverted back to the old change.

as for the 2nd one, whenever i edit the old posts, then i go back into phpMyAdmin and check the wp_posts table, it shows the "Table is crashed" error, then i have to repair it...

    interesting note...

i decided to go back to an earlier back up (Feb '06), which i know worked...

on this one, it's doing similiar things, and i noticed that when i delete a post from the Dashboard, it doesn't actually delete it from the database, it just changes the category to "Uncategorized", yet you can no longer view it on my site... really akward...

so i'm thinking it is entirely to do with my mysql/php upgrade (more likely mysql), but i don't know why my other wordpress blogs have no issues (one is WP 1.5.2, the other 2.0.3, just as this one is)

well i think i might have fixed it...

wish i'd have thought of that before i mucked up my comments table... at least i had a backup from February, but still lost a good deal of comments, ah well ;)

what i did was delete my database entirely from Plesk, re-add it and the user...

i tried to just do that then copy over my backup, but it did the same thing...

so i deleted it again, recreated it via the WordPress setup, then just merged the data using mysql command line, and now it's working like it's supposed to...

    WEIRD...
