wp_list_cats printing within the <a> tag possible?

    Any php savvy here? (who will read the post:)

    Was wondering how you can modify the wp_list_cats function so that when the parameter optioncount is set to 1, the parentheses are printed within the a-tag, not after it, as in the current display. The current parantheses are printed after the a-tag, which means they fall outside the a-tags’ styling.
    Have looked through the function but it’s a mess of several nested functions that would take a generation to sort through.
    Of course, no-one knows this answer, right?
