I am working with 3.1 and following the 5 minute installation. I can't get the install program to run. I also can't get the config.php file to open after inputting my database information.

The only unusual thing I noted was while uploading I got an overwrite error on file class-simplepie.php it said it was already installed even though it was a new install. Any help would be appreciated.

My link to my sub directory was this:

    http:///www.my-web.com/wordpress/wp-config/install.php

I had installed an earlier copy and tried to move directories that now works I misread a db name. The second installation on a different directory still will not install I changed permissions and deleted the htaccess file as I read in another post install still will not run????

    CapeCodBob,

Make sure you've uploaded all the files inside website root folder and then try to access it. 404 error means then there is no files on path specified or PHP is not working.

It is puzzling I uploaded to http://maritime.bostonuniform.com as a sub directory and I can see the install file but it will not run.

    /maritime.bostonuniform.com/wp-admin/install.php

It ran for the first install to another directory.
    this one

    /temp.canterburyclothing.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

It doesn't make sense to me.

Resolved the problem. I have 1&1 ISP and in order to get the correct path I had to direct them to my site address. Easy fix long process.
    Thanks for all the help.
