    Hi,

I'm working on a video tutorial site that I would like to:

    1. Stream 300meg to 1gig video flash files

    2. Password protect to view the videos

I see that I can use "password protect" in Pages > Password

But I'm running into trouble uploading such big files.

How can do upload these files for playback? Do I need a separate plug-in for something this big?

Or is there even a better to stream these .flv files?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have any number of videos playing on your site then I would definitely NOT host them on your site. It will be a nightmare with uploading, bandwidth, web host costs etc.

The only viable (and scalable) solution to this is to use a CDN (content delivery network) such as: http://www.bitsontherun.com/

I have used their system with WordPress before via a custom integration, it can be done. All your videos are stored on their servers (and duplicated on servers around the world - users get served with your video from the nearest server).

What sort of video tutorials do you plan on producing by the way?

    Hi,

I'm doing educational videos that are about 1-2 hours long each (.flv)

    I'll check out bitsontherun.com

Can that work with a password protected page too?

    Thanks.

    Hi dgwyer,

I just talked to my hosting company...they currently have all of my .flv videos on their server through a VPS server.

I can stream from them. I just need a way for playback on the WP Blog page.

Is this still a viable method?

    Thanks

I used the security available through the CDN plus a third party membership script to allow people to sign-up and subscribe to videos (guests would see a preview).

You could probably achieve something similar through a Plugin but I have not used one myself. Just try searching the Plugin repo for membership, subscription etc.

You may want to take a look at Amazon S3 for storage and EZS3 for delivery.
