Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

That button was removed by design in WordPress 3.9

To be more specific, the editor was improved to handle that case correctly without having a special button for it.

Just paste. It’ll handle it. 🙂

Didn’t mean to side track with the missing “word” button – the slowness is the real issue.

@otto: I was looking for a specific quote for this but I haven’t found a suitable one outside of the “welcome page” that appears following a 3.9 upgrade.

That could be any one of a number of factors: theme, plugins, server etc. So you need to start by ruling out the factors that you can control by using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated.

esmi – I think it is in the plug-in because it is faster when I deactivated. I’ll try activating them one at a time. Thank you.

You’re welcome. I hope you get the problems sorted asap.
