I clicked on the link to upgrade WP after logging in via .../wp-admin. It appeared to go AOK, with a message saying it was successful.
However, I now get a blank page when I return to .../wp-admin, so I can't do anything now.
I'm sunk; can anyone suggest what to do please?
Rename your plugins folder temporarily to something else. It's possible you've now got an incompatible plugin with the new version of WordPress.
If you still have problems after trying that... do the upgrade again manually...
Download and unzip a fresh copy of WordPress onto your hard drive.

FTP into your webspace and delete the wp-admin and wp-includes directories. Delete the WordPress files in the root folder too --- except for the .htaccess and the wp-config.php files. Also, don't touch your wp-content folder either.
Make sure your FTP program is in Auto mode, then re-upload the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from your hard drive. Next, upload the files in the root directory. Once again, *don't touch* your wp-config.php, your .htaccess or your wp-content folder.

Thanks heaps! Renaming the plugins folder gave me access.
Should I progressively rename each plugin in that folder to figure out which are incompatible?
