WP - treat blog function (posting) as a PAGE (9 posts)

I've built a website that is primarily static pages:
    sutownsend.com

I want to moving all posting activity to a PAGE called Su's Blog (so it can be turned off and on etc.). But the default behaviour of WP is to automatically send all posts to (url)/blog, and there is no direct control of that area as is done with a page or post.

How do I make blogging individually controllable (such as setting it to private when needed)? Whenever I google or topic-search this, the assumption is always that by "blog" I mean the whole website. (WP needs to move beyond this narrow perception.) I want to treat blog as a "function" inside the website. That's too big-picture for here, but is there a work-around to manage posting that way?

if you use a static page as your posts page (selectable from Settings/Reading) you can then make a custom menu and exclude the posts page as desired simply by pulling the widget out of the column.

#1. Thank you deepbevel. I barely remember seeing that setting in Reading, but that's it!

#2. Since I've now set posts to go to a static page, I was thinking that I could prevent access by setting the page to visibility: private. Doesn't appear to prevent being able to view that page (and its posts). Is yanking out of the menu the best (only?) way to prevent seeing that page?

other than a code mod, you'll want to rely on a plugin. This one was updated in December. I've used it for a while.
    exclude-pages/

Thanks again deepbevel. That would be a better solution - except the plugin does not work for custom menus (just the WP default menu). I'll settle for removing the assigned posting-page from the menu when "private" wanted.

    Thanks once more.

It's actually just as easy doing it that way.
One other tip, if you want to have dropdown-flyout menu items in a custom menu, you just drag the widgets under each other. I did't discover that right away and thought I was stuck with top level only.
