    You would have to edit the theme files manually to make these changes.

    I would take that advice more seriously if there were A/B tests to show what kind of speed benefits could be expected by making these changes. I would suspect any resultant speed up from this would be minimal.

    If you need to decrease the loading time of your site you would get better results using WP Super Cache or one of the alternative cache plugins.
