WP-Table Reloaded becomes empty on update (8 posts)

I added a link to a cell and the table disappeared. Actually it lost its name and all contents and could not be updated. This has happened twice. The only special character is a $ sign.

Also where are tables stored so I can recover from a backup?

    Hi,

tables are stored in the "wp_options" table, with names like "wp_table_reloaded_data_...". Internally, tables are multi-dimensional arrays, which are transformed into "serialized strings" by WordPress, in order to be stored in the database.
Unfortunately, that data format is not very robust to certain things, like characters in other character encodings.

What size does your table have? How do you insert the link? Did you add copy/paste any contents into the table or link? Sometimes, non-visible characters can be copied then and cause this kind of trouble.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Thank You. Do you know how we could restore from a backup of the database?

There are 22 rows in the table. All rows were hand keyed. It was in use for several days. Then I added a hyperlink using the tools available. I updated the table and it was gone. I use FireFox. Would that be the difference?
    Thanks,
    JG

Further effort shows if you put in a relative link the table will be destroyed. Putting in permanent link seems to work ....

Not really. It worked for few entries and then crashed again. I recovered by using copies of the table after each entry and entering the link again and again until I finally got all of them updated.

There must be a bug somewhere?

    Hi,

the plugin does not know that you entered links at all, it just sees text. So, relative or absolute URL does not matter.
Also, the webbrowser should not make a difference.

What size does your table have?
How do you insert the link? Did you add copy/paste any contents into the table or link? Or did you type everything (including the URL) by hand?

Meanwhile, making copies of the table is a good idea, to have a backup. You might also save a backup copy as an exported CSV file.

(And I agree that this is a bug, but it is not in WP-Table Reloaded, but in PHP or other server software.)

    Regards,
    Tobias

Thank you for your response. This is a small table which is hand keyed. 22 rows and 6 columns. The link was inserted using the insert link button and the links are to pages within the website.

The entire table contents and name vanish although the table number remains. There's nothing I can do about PHP, but any other suggestions regarding this problem are welcomed.

    Hi,

ok, thanks for the extra information.

How do you enter the URL and link text after clicking the "Insert Link" button? Do you copy/paste it in or type it in?

And can you post a link to the page with the table (where it is still working)?

    Regards,
    Tobias
