WP Support Search not working? (6 posts)

Hi, I've just tried to use the 'search' button at the top right of the WP Support page (wanting to search the forums) and it always seems to come back with 'nothing found'. I've put in really common terms like 'category' and this still happens... am I doing something stupid?

    Ditto.

Getting desperate for an answer, I thought I'd try searching again on how to use line breaks in a post.

No matter what you put in the search it returns a page like this:

    Restrict search:
    Documentation Support Forums
    WP.org Blogs Bug Database

    We couldn't find anything!

    Please try a different search.

Search powered by kick-butt Yahoo! Web Search.

I first searched for "force line break", then "line break", then "line-break". Nothing. Not even my own post.

Selecting or un-selecting the "restriction" options makes no difference.

Google to the rescue. This search "force line break site:wordpress.org" returns 332 results.

I think there's something up with the search box at the top of the page, probably a simple coding error. But if you go direct to http://wordpress.org/support/search.php then the search will work.

  4. There is a sticky post at the top of the forums which gives instructions for searching in the absence of the usual function:

Personally, I've always found Google returns more useful results anyway...

Cool, thanks. However, the search box at the top right of the support pages still needs to be fixed I think.

EDIT: oh, I see they've fixed it now!

They get fixed then they break again, it's very annoying.

I tend to use google whenever I need to search wordpres:

    google.com/search?q=my search query site:wordpress.org

    Or for the codex:

    google.com/search?q=my search query site:codex.wordpress.org

I know WP has some partnership with Yahoo (and bloody hell, that's great, I'm really pleased to see it succeeding like that!) but they could really use a better search function, the current breaks from time to time, and doesn't return very helpful results, if it returns any at all!

I'm all for google, or at least a bit of choice!
