i run piwik, google analytics, and wp-stats for analytics tracking
both piwik and google analytics show almost double unique visitors and page views compared to wp-stats.
i also noticed this when i had statpress too.
is there a reason for this?

I'm a bit confused here. The title of the topic is:
"wp-stats showing inflated numbers?"
But then you said:
"both piwik and google analytics show almost double unique visitors and page views compared to wp-stats."
So, is wp-stats showing inflated or deflated numbers?
my mistake, i meant the other way around.
wp-stats show double unique visitors and pageviews compared to piwik and google analytics.
noticed this same trend when i used statpress too.
thanks
In my tests, Google Analytics has shown considerably less visitors when compared to actual access log results for browsers (not bots). I think that some people somehow block Google's tracking script as part of the somewhat common fear that Google is trying to steal their soul, or something like that.
Consequently, similar comparisons to access logs have shown me that wp-stats does in fact reflect higher numbers than it should. I believe that it does log some bots, which is actually quite useless to the user.
Not to sound like a salesman, because I'm certainly not, but the only stats system that I have ever found to be 99% accurate when compared to access log results for actual browsers is Mint. It's not free, but well worth the $30.
