WP slows down after one post or edit

    Hi!
    I’m new to wordpress, however not to Linux or MySql.
    I’ve got a problem here that drives me mad:
    After installing WordPress everything works fine with good performance.
    Changing theme or making theme adjustments (like removing or adding widgets) works fine.
    However when I try to edit or make a new post everything slows down regardless of theme. It takes like 30sec for every WP page to load.
    I’ve been searching for a resolution (Among the one to edit cron.php substituting the “$argyle…” line) but I’m not able to solve this.

    Anyone with a clue?
    Im running Ubuntu 6.06LTS, Apache 2, MySQL 5.0.22
