[resolved] WP site anomaly (4 posts)

In the last few days, when viewed on some monitors (not all) and on some servers (not all) the website presents with a pink background at the top, full of spam links. Scroll down two or three monitor heights, and you get to the site.

    Site: http://www.cherylfurlongrealestate.com/

If you see it, we have no idea where this came from.

When we "view page source" you can see the code for the spam content, but when accessing that same page through WP Admin and viewing the html for the page, the spam code is not there.

    Any suggestions?

    Bill

It seems your Theme is hacked and modified with the new changes to add spam links. It could be also the plugin which is adding these changes.

Please list the themes and plugins in your wordpress dashboard. So we can get more idea of what is running and what is installed.

You can edit the theme files to remove the spam, if it exists from the theme side. Make sure you change the theme and also change the file permission for the theme and plugins. I am thinking this has something to do with the hacked plugin issue. Also update the WordPress install on your server.

  3. Edit: Missed that reply from the spam queue.

Really don't do that. It doesn't work and just removing the links is a waste of time. That only fights the symptoms and does nothing to solve the problem. Give my reply a read. It's a lot of work but you can get a handle on your situation.

I'm sorry to say but your site is hacked. You need to start working your way through these resources:

Anything less will probably result in the hacker walking straight back into your site again.
