I am using WP 3.6. I would like to know if WP can automatically generate rewrite rules for .htaccess files for WP 3.6. I have found 2 .htaccess files in my WP installation. I will not be able to set up any rewrite rules for these files. Do they need rewrite rules? If so, what file permission setting do you recommend to allow WP to rewrite these files.
I believe 604 is sufficient for writing, and 404 works for me the rest of the time just as suggested by BulletProof Security. WordPress writes Rewrites to .htaccess whenever you set your Permalinks, I believe, and I think the default permission might be 644. .htaccess appears in a number of places throughout WordPress, and each instance can be unique within its assigned folder.
