A few weeks ago my site began regularly crashing. I identified wp-pagenavi as the offending plugin. Once the plugin was disabled, normal service was resumed.
I've just noticed that somehow my version of wp-pagenavi had been upgraded to 2.75-alpha!! I've replace this with 2.74 and all seems well again.
Weird!
