WP overriding Firefox spell checker? (7 posts)

After I upgraded to WP 2.7 it's like WP overrides Firefox's spell checker. I know WP has a spell check, but it's the "afterward" type of spell checker where you have to go back through the whole post and find the misspelled underlined words. Firefox has the type where as soon as you hit the space bar and the word is spelled wrong, you see it then and there and can fix it. Plus, Firefox's spell check has a function where you can add a frequently used word into its dictionary, but WP's only has the "ignore" feature if it's not familiar with the word.

Is there a way to have Firefox's spell check work instead of WP's? Before the upgrade the Firefox spell check worked regardless of WP having one, but now it doesn't. Even writing this post my Firefox browser is finding the spelling errors as I type, so the problem doesn't seem to be with Firefox. Any suggestions?

That's just not so. I use FF as my browser and any spelling error is underlined red the instant I advance to the next word. There is no issue about having to go back later to check for misspellings.

Do you have the most current version of both FF and WP?

Yes. Is it possible your setup has other issues? Certainly. I would venture a guess that very few people have either WP or Firefox setup identically - which makes the question meaningless. There are simply too many variables there to assume if I have the latest versions of both WP and FF the issue should be able to be duplicated. That's all I'm saying.

Actually, there are variables that can be assessed. Firefox's spell check is working right now as I write this post. Firefox's spell check worked with Word Press prior to upgrading to the newest version. That, in turn, makes the updated version of Word Press a likely candidate.

However, I did not say that was the problem, you'll note I asked if there was a problem with WP overriding Firefox's spell check. When you stated that it worked for you, I had to ask if you had the latest versions of both products because that information also becomes a variable.

Now, finding out that you have the latest version of both products and hopefully Windows XP, which adds another variable, then clearly the problem is not being created by Word Press' latest version, or at least not entirely. For example, I just typed "arcle snerfis of the floogie bogzem" into Word Press and Firefox didn't underline any of those made-up words, but Firefox underlined those words in this post. And here's one last interesting twist. When I switch to HTML view, the Firefox spell check works perfectly ;)

It happens to me, too,on Firefox 3.0.x. The spellcheck works intermittently and randomly.

For example, I misspelled radical as radicla. Firefox's spell check showed NO words misspelled while I typed my post. After saving, closing the browser, and going back to the post, radicla was still unflagged. Only after I deleted the l near the end did it finally flag that there was something wrong with the word. I was able to right-click and select the correct word.

While typing this very post, radicla is flagged. Why not in WordPress?
