WP not updating DB (13 posts)

I have just updated the WP site following the instructions in the Updating WP Codex. I ftp'd the files making sure that all files needed were in their proper places. Upon completion I went to the Admin Login and was propted to update the DB. I clicked the button to "Upgrade WP Database Now" and it goes to another page with the address of:www.nameofsite.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?step=1&backto= and on the page is the WP logo and WordPress. There is nothing else. What can be done to correct this issue? All plugins were deactivated prior to update as instructed.

    Try:
    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme's folder inside wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    - re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress.

    - running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

The DB manual plugin disable didn't work as the property was already set to :0. Renaming the theme used to "-old" didn't work either. I am ftp-ing the original (3.2.1) back onto the server and going to try after that. I will call the Host and see if the DB will handle the update as well. I had run the update manually from a downloaded .zip file as there is a custom theme in there that I do not want deleted. As an afterthought, could I do an Auto-update then ftp the custom theme into the theme folder?

I think your best bet would be to switch to Twenty Eleven whilst carrying out the upgrade then switch to the custom theme afterwards.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but how do I switch themes prior to update then revert after while still maintaining the custom theme in the "Theme" folder? I have only been working with WP for a few months and this will be my first update to the site that I am in charge of.

Ok the update took, now at 3.4.1 with all plugins updated but now the main slider pic isn't displayed nor do the pages change when I select a different category or anything else that would take me away from the landing page. Thank you for the update help. Any ideas as for what to do now?

Are you using Twenty Eleven? If so, what plugin are you using for the slider?

Looking at the httpdocs there are a few extra files in the new one that are not in the previous file(backup) an "httaccess", "favicon", and an "index.html". Could this be causing the issue? Sholud I try re-ftp of the sitemap.gz and xml?

i think the jquery colorbox for the slider. I know that there is a "slider" tab on the Dashboard and the only plugin that I can see that may even come close to allowing that would be the jQuery Colorbox. There are three themes twenty eleven, twenty ten, custom. I reactivated the custom theme after the update. It looks as it should just without functionality.

I suggest you first either remove WordPress or complete the installation at http://www.hangeroos.com/
