i notice when wp creates a robot meta tag instead of grouping it with the rest of the meta tags it places it under the links, what file is this in and how do we put it with the rest of the meta tags

Look in your theme directory -- header.php

I really should pipe in here and say that I too found this irritating. My suggestion, gspark, is to create a new hook and move some of the wp_head stuff to that new hook so that you can better control what goes where.

    That's what I did.

The other thing I did was code in a conditional so that only Googlebot sees those relative archive links that ONLY googlebot needs to see.

This meta tag is not in the theme directory header, that's why I was asking it's the one WP produces when you choose to open/close blog to search engines

    wow i didn't understand a word you said :))

    what's a hook ? and what's a conditional ?

your're speaking to a non-programer who only understands apples and oranges
