WP-Newspaper front page category

I am in the process of designing a new site. I have the WP-Newspaper theme by Gabfire which has the front page posting categories that I would normally sign to posts. Unfortunately, this will not work for me.
I have quite a few sites that I am pulling data from and applying them to different pages. I would like the Front page to pull the top bits of data from each page and post it on the front page. I can I get the front page to do this?
I tried to use the plug in that allows me to assign categories to the pages, but I don’t believe that is working like it should, because it won’t pull the data.
