I’m using WP 2.7.1 and selected the automatic upgrade option for WP Mobile from version 3.0 to 3.0.1. The upgrade appeared to process normally, but then an error message appeared on the plugin screen that “WP Mobile is incorrectly installed. Please check the README.” Despite being active, the plugin does not appear to be functioning.

I was unable to locate information about this issue at the link provided (may be there, just couldn’t find it) and deactivated the plugin. For the next two days, there were two updates to 3.0.2 and today to 3.0.3, which I thought may have something to do with this, but I am currently still experiencing the issue.

    Ideas?

I recommend reading the README and following the steps there.

Since your plugin isn’t able to properly upgrade itself (can’t put the theme folder where it belongs), perhaps it shouldn’t try, or maybe it can at least advise people WHY it isn’t properly installed, instead of telling people to view the readme. The Readme doesn’t convey that the update completely changed file and folder names.

i get the same error and i have the theme in both a carrington-mobile folder and a wp-mobile folder like the one that comes zipped in the download.

Use the default folder name: wp-content/themes/carrington-mobile-1.0.1
This was my mistake and now is working without error message.

    Really simple.

    Hello Alex,

As mentioned in my initial post, I was unable to locate a FAQ relevant to the error that I am experiencing in the README at http://alexking.org/projects/wordpress/readme?project=wordpress-mobile-edition.

Which “steps,” exactly are you referring to?

So what do you do when your ISP does not allow “.” in the file name?

I had the same issues. The original upgrade was wrong. Delete your plugin files and do a clean install of 3.0.3, it is packaged and named correctly, and mine is now working error free.

Changing the default folder name to wp-content/themes/carrington-mobile-1.0.1 proposed by @lucioantoniolo did the trick for me. Thank you!

    README ist not very precise:

    2. Drop the wp-mobile directory in your wp-content/themes directory

    should be

    2. Drop the wp-mobile directory in your wp-content/themes directory and change it to carrington-mobile-1.0.1 🙂

Thanks everyone… that worked perfectly! I’m mobile again

The above comments won’t help someone today, as version numbers have changed. The plugin is now at 3.0.5.

I had used the automatic upgrade, which the README mentions does not work. This is fine, but when one has 10+ plugins and doesn’t grok WordPress day in and day out, it is easy to forget which plugins don’t upgrade automatically.

For a start, the carrington-mobile version is now 1.0.2 and the automatic upgrade just drops it in the plugins folder. You need to move it, i.e. rename it within the FTP program to ../../themes/carrington-mobile-1.0.2 and the problem is solved.
