Support » Fixing WordPress » WP Menu Categories page 2 not found

  • I am using the default WP Menu system and have set up a link to show all Posts from a particular category.
When clicking the link the first page of Posts is displayed just fine but the pagination at the bottom causes a ‘page not found’ page to be displayed instead of the second page of results. This error occurs on all categories.
The URL is similar to http://mywebsite.co.nz/my-category/page/2/
Is this a valid URL for this scenario or is there something happening giving an incorrect URL?
What else could be causing pagination to not work when using categories as a menu link?

  • That sounds like a badly coded custom query in the relevant category template file.

I contacted the Theme Developer and he tells me that the theme is using standard WP pagination functions and I have confirmed this by activating various other themes including the default themes and have the exact same issue.
Significantly, by inserting category into the URL it all works fine, I get to see the second, third etc pages.
So, why do I not have ‘category’ in the URL? i.e. http://mywebsite.co.nz/category/my-category/page/2/
