hi guys, i have recently started to work at a charity which had already designed a website. my job is to be involved with the site.

when the site was designed and was running from the local machine, it could send emails when people tried to register.
when the site was fully uploaded online the registration email is not sent. i get a message at the end of the long bit of error code saying:

SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
    (10060)

i'm finding this whole thing a bit bizzare. it works offline when connected to the internet, so have no idea why it would suddenly stop when the site was uploaded onto the net. any help please?

You host may have PHP mailer restrictions in place. Ask them or try WordPress › WP Mail SMTP « WordPress Plugins and WordPress › WP-EMail « WordPress Plugins.

i am using wp mail smtp, that is what my question was regarding. it does not send the email from the site when requested. i get an error which says
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
    (10060)

does anyone understand what this means please?

Either there's a problem with your host - talk to them - or with your hosting account, and if the site is essexandsouthendlink.org.uk, then the error page currently there shows that ISS isn't fully set up.

Google for that smtp error 10060 and see what you find.
