    IF i try to log in using the top bar (subscriber log in) I receive this error -

    http://www.thevoice2013.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thevoice2013.com (404 page)

    How can I send them to the wp login page or should I install a buddypress login page somehow? ( I am using buddypress )

    website : http://www.thevoice2013.com

    It seems that there is conflict with your login plugin. Please configure the login plugin correctly.

    I have installed buddypress, buddypress toolbar,login with Ajax but neither of these seem to have an option to do with the login page link

    When I tried your wp-admin login i got as following :
    http://www.thevoice2013.com/unofficial/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thevoice2013.com%2Funofficial%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1
    and it doesn't throw any 404 page. So either you may have wrong setting with login plugin(login with ajax) or you have configured your site on unofficial and due to that it acts like that.

    Ah i think it would be that the site is configured on unofficial as that is the location of the wordpress folder, but I have set the site address as http://www.thevoice2013.com.

    Would this need to chance to http://www.thevoice2013.com/unofficial or is there something I could change? Or I am getting this all wrong? thanks for your help so far btw

    yes due to site physically located on unofficial, it will redirect to unofficial when doing
    http://www.thevoice2013.com/wp-admin.
    For login url just use wordpress function
    <?php echo wp_login_url( $redirect ); ?>

    I am also aware my site is painfully slow at the moment, currently looking at using a better server

    You can use cahce and compress the script file,css and can only load corresponding script file on relevant page to make it faster.
