    Hi,

since in WordPress 3.5, the Link Manager (which some use to build blogrolls) has become disabled by default and it seems to be just a question of time until the link manager code will be cleaned out in a future WP release.

My question is, is your Link Library going to be a full replacement for the old build in Link Manger or do I have to use another plugin in addition?

    Many thanks…

    Hi,

The current plan of the WordPress development team is to eventually move all of the Link Manager functionality out of the WordPress core code and into the Link Manager plugin.

With this in mind, my current plan was to leave a dependency between Link Library and the Link Manager plugin. You would need to have Link Library and the Link Manager installed for everything to work.

While I could create a full replacement for the Link Manager, what I don’t like about that approach is that it would break compatibility between Link Library and other link-related plugins that use the default structure.

That being said, if the Link Manager stops getting updated or stops working, then I will add that functionality in Link Library.

I hope that answers your question.

According to the plugin listing, Link Manager hasn’t been updated since 3.5. Where is that functionality supported in 3.8? Anyone know?

The ability to create simple link list for the sidebars is *very* useful in many instances. I really, really miss it — especially since I’ve got a small non-profit that desperately needs the feature. Have no idea why WordPress took it out of the core program. Designing the program for web developers and IT departments vs basic users not the best direction in my opinion.

Link Manager hasn’t been updated since 3.5.

It should still work in WP 3.8
