    hello fans,
this short notice is for people who hosted their WP on 1&1-Servers (germany). I got often the Error-message 500 Internal Server Error when trying to upload pictures. So I have to use a complicated method transfering the pictures by FTP. But after upgrade from 2.7.1 to 2.8.1/2 the WP does not work anymore. In this lucky chance I got back the old Version by rollback the upgrade. Email from the hoster only explained the Limits of 10 sec. execution-time and a limit of 38 MB RAM and that there is no posibility to change the parameters.

To day I got the error again as I try to edit my last post. The only possibility was to manipulate the MySQL-database, what is a very dangerous aktion. Slowly I get angry 1&1!

So if you plan an WP-Hosting, look for a better Host. If someone has good expirences by hoster, please inform us.

    thanks,

what package do you have with 1&1?

I have a VPS there (thinking about a dedicated server with them next year), and so far didn't have any problems at all.

If it's a shared hosting, I can understand that some items might be limited, due to it being on shared machines.

However in my opinion 10 sec execution time might be a little low on a shared box.

I am having the same problem posting photos (on 1&1 shared server). Both the browser uploader and the flash uploader fail. The photos do end up in my uploads folder on the server, but I can't do anything with them via the WordPress dashboard. I have been searching forums for help, but nothing has helped yet. Does anyone know of a fix or work around? I'm seriously starting to think about switching hosts.

Added note: I have also tried NextGen Gallery. This will upload photos, but I receive "http error" there when I try to perform any function on them such as creating thumbnails.

    Thanks.

Solved this problem by adding the following line to my .htaccess file in the relevant upload directory.

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

working fine for me now on 1&1.
