    Hi Guys,

I wonder can you help a newbie here. I have a bit of a catalogue of errors.

I had a perfectly working system. Could post fine, etc. Installed a theme I didnt like and tried to swap it back.

WP failed to load. I could get the main wp page. I couldnt get to WP-admin or WP-login.

I didnt have a backup. (I can hear the screams at your end)

I did have access to both the wordpress and PhpMyadmin directory. SO at least I have a back up of that.

So my ask is. How to I install a vanilla version of WP, then reload my data?
I tried copying my wp-config.php over before install but that fails to load. I tried renaming the plugins directory just incase, but had no affect.

If I allow the install to proceed, it says the database is already populated, please clear and continue.

Any advice, apart from backup ;-)

    Many thanks
    Mike

    Try:
    - switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme's folder inside wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    - re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress 3.2.1. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

So let me please understand fully.
    1. I have a back up of WordPress and MyPhpAdmin directory
    2. Delete the data in the current dbase (not sure how to do this either)
    3. Reinstall WP
    4. Restore data (this is the bit I have no idea about)

The options you gave me on the previous response imply I have the system in its original form. Alas I dont.

    Can you confirm my understanding.

And once again thanks for your help.

    Mike

Please re-read my post above. None of the suggestions I made require you to login to your WordPress dashboard.
