WP Flickr Background uses the WordPress Media Library (Dashboard -> Media -> Library) for any local or non-Flickr image.

It’s preferable to use the “Add New” option from either the WordPress Media Library or from within the WP Flickr Background plugin itself, rather than manually uploading them.

One way or the other, on the configuration page the photos are not found in the gallery. Is this plugin optimized for WP 3.1.2?

It does work with WP 3.1.2, yes. For non-Flickr images, the correct procedure is as follows:

Dashboard -> Settings -> WP Flickr Background -> Galleries -> (Edit or create new gallery) -> Add Media Library Photo.

Now select one of the three tabs: From Computer, From URL or Media Library.

For example, selecting Media Library, click Show for the desired image, ensure that Full Size is selected and click the Insert into Post button. It will now appear in the gallery – just like adding a photo to a post.
