WP extracts to folder called wordpress? (8 posts)

I want WP to extract to my "blog" folder, and it does this but it puts itself inside another folder called wordpress WITHIN the blog folder. Can I just drag all the WP files and folders to the blog folder so that it is just inside /blog and not /blog/wordpress.
I haven't done any of the other configure edits yet. Just wanting to know if wordpress will allow me to do this. Another way of putting this is: If I extract the files on my own computer, and it does what I said above (ie creates the 2nd folder), can I drag them or just rename the wordpress folder to "blog" and then drag it so that it is a stand alone folder in my root directory? There doesn't seem to be any way to avoid it creating the secondary folder for itself.

Make sure that WordPress is not double-nested in another folder. You can unzip WP in your computer and move/upload WP files to your blog subdirectory http://yoursite.com/blog/

This doesn't really answer the exact question..please clarify for me..

if doing it so that it is NOT double nested means allowing it to create the "wordpress" folder on my computer as it seems to want to do....
...and then upload it (the files and folders within the wordpress folder to the folder /blog on my root directory on-line,... but can I upload it WITHOUT uploading the folder it is in...ie so that it goes like blog/wp-admin and blog/wp-incudes, rather than blog/wordpress/wp-admin, etc.

this is common with zipped files..............as they unzip they are in a foldeer..........u do not need the folder...u need the contents of the folder.......my first post in this forum 6 years and 6k support posts ago was on this very subject..............if u got a folder called blog upload the contents of folder wordpress in there.........

By double-nested I mean after extracting it looks like this
    wordpress/wordpress/FilesAndFolders

Do not upload the first folder wordpress/ nor 2nd /wordpress/ folder
You only need to upload FilesAndFolders i.e. wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes folders along with individual WP files
    to http://yoursite.com/blog/ subdirectory

    Thank you.
I will be moving the index.php to the main root directory (following those set up instructions) as the main index file to which my domain name points...(I don't see any .htaccess file to be moved so I assume I don't need to move that one)...and I am just trying to avoid any reason why the program might not work properly.

Yup. It goes right in the root directory of yr domain or a sub directory if u wish. But the folders it comes in are not needed.

Your .htaccess file will be created during the installation process.
