I have uploaded the wp ecommerce plugin on my server and have tried to installing from wp theme directory. I cannot find the plugin even after wordpress says it is already installed.

First, it's not a theme.
If you're using a newer version, you should see a "Products" tab in the left navigation in WP admin area. If it's an older version, the tab will be called "E-Commerce"
