[resolved] wp-document-revisions setting up teams/visibility roles (9 posts)

I just installed the latest dev verison of wp-doc-rev (https://github.com/benbalter/WP-Document-Revisions/zipball/develop
    )
When I add a document as a admin all other users with different roles (authors, editors, and contributors) can not see the document. Even If I (local admin) assign it to a local user or a ldap user once I login as that local or domain user (using any role other than admin) I can not see the document.
What am I doing wrong? I do not want to make EVERY user a admin on the site.

also, I would like to create teams so that only certain teams can see documents when logged in. any recommendations on how to do this? thanks in advanced

btw I am using the lated WP in a multisite enviroment

Take a look at either the Members plugin, or the Role Scoper plugin. Regarding teams, you'll want to make a custom taxonomy, and assign permissions accordingly. I suspect your documents are private and your other roles do not have the read_private_documents capability.

I'm actually thinking about releasing an add on which would provide this functionality out of the box. Is this something you would be interested in? If so, would you consider making a small donation to support its development?

I believe I have a working version of an add-on plugin that should do exactly what you're looking for. The file is here ( https://github.com/benbalter/WP-Document-Revisions-Code-Cookbook/blob/master/taxonomy-permissions.php ) and would be installed like any other plugin.

A bit more information is listed on the last question of the FAQ ( https://github.com/benbalter/WP-Document-Revisions/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions ), but in short, out of the box it will make a "departments" taxonomy, and will create capabilities based on any departments added. You would then install and activate Members, if you have not already, and use the interface members provides to add roles and assign capabilities.

You can tell the plugin to create and use any different taxonomy (e.g., "company" instead of "departments"), as described within the file.

It may not be 100% stable as it hasn't been tested in the wild yet, but it should work. Please let me know if it works for you, or if you'd prefer to have me set it up, etc.

    Hello Ben, this is Diana.

I have set up your add-on plugin for permissions, installed MEMBERS plugin and created several users and several roles. The set up seems easy and straightforward :-)

    1. In case I want user to upload files, I need to activate the "upload_files" capability, and when I do that, the user can also see
the "Multimedia" item in menu, and can upload files to Multimedia
Library. Is possible to have a capability in order to let them upload
documents but no upload to multimedia library?

    2. In order to view documents in category, and edit them, I have to
activate the capability "read_private_documents". What happens is the
other users from other departments can see file, no edit, no download, but can see and try to download. I suppose the documents in other departments must be completely invisible.

    3. Also, seems I haven't configured permissions correctly, because the owner of the file, except admin user, can't download file.

Can you please let me know what am I doing wrong?

    Thank you!!!

I am looking to use this add-in, but am reviewing issues such as the above posted by ArtGoddess. Any response to her last questions in this thread?

No, at the moment there is no answer from Ben, he must be busy.
