[WP-DB-Backup] ERROR: The mail application has failed to deliver the backup (7 posts)

WP-DB-Backup has stopped working for me a while ago, but with the arrival of the new version I can finally see what's wrong with it. Plugin backups the database, but when it tries to send it, it gives the following error:

The mail application has failed to deliver the backup

I realize this means there's something wrong with mail server configuration, but where do I even begin to look for the problem? I'm on shared hosting, so I have a rather limited access to server control.

    Hello

I've spent the last week hair-tearing over blog issues. Each search for answers finds someone with a similar issue posted in the last week. Finally got around to this one, and here you are, K4.

Same problem. I succeeded in getting my backup by saving to server and using wp-db-backup's immediate download option. But it refuses to email. I've 6 blogs that have gone silent this way. The email address tests ok but I'm about to try others.

What version WP are you on. Is it 2.6? I upgraded a week ago from 2.5.

FYI, the next item in my search list was the author's forum. A thread many months old has Aug 21 entry suggesting a
    bug for our issue.

I still haven't resolved the problem. Currently I backup the DB manually.

    I use WP 2.6.1

This bug should be fixed in version 2.2.1 of WP-DB-Backup.

Great to hear that! Can't wait till it comes out...

Edit: oh, it already did :)

Edit #2: Works like a charm! Thank you very much for this great plugin.

If you are still having problems with the email backup feature, i have posted a solution to this problem as i also run into it before. Even if you dont have the problem it would be nice to update your PHPMailer( the class wordpress uses to send email) from the old one v1.73 to the newest v2.2 . It is best to use it with Gmail. I do and i have daily backups sent to my email with no probs.
Read this post on how to send bacups to your email via Gmail SMTP and do not forget to make a backup copy of your WP-backup plugin, in case something goes wrong.
