Whenever I'm writing a long post and scroll down near the end WordPress will automatically jump back to the top of the post after a few seconds, almost as if its autosaving. I only work in HTML mode and this has actually been happening for awhile... but it was not always happening. I seem to recall not seeing this problem on an earlier version of WP. Not sure when the bug showed up... probably sometime in 2010.
I've heard that others see this same problem but no one knows a solution so I thought I'd post here to see if its been covered.
Sorry if someone else has asked this but when doing a search its hard to come up with the right terms to describe whats happening.

Have you tried:
- deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
- resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
Yes, I tried all of those suggestions with the plugins. This same problem happens on brand new WP installs without any plugins activated. By the way, I'm using IE8 in case that makes a difference.
It's a known issue specific to IE8. Try switching to Compatibility mode in IE. Some people report that this fixes the problem for them.

If your blog has the WordPress Tweaks plugin, make sure that you've unchecked the option for "Automatically scroll to the post editor" under settings.
