WP Archive Question? (2 posts)

I am very interested in using WP after 1.2 is released. Right now I use Movable Type and Typepad on several blogs. My comments are starting to pile up on a couple blogs making rebuilding a real pain. Since there is no rebuilding with PHP does this mean it creates less strain on the server or just spreads it out? I have my archives on my site right now set up by date and category plus by thumbnail for my photo posts. I've done this like many MT users have done by including a thumbnail in the "excerpt" field. I don't see why this wouldn't be possible in WP but just thought I'd ask.

Afaik, MT rebuilt everything as static pages, so any strain was there at that point.
WP generates the desired page 'on the fly' - it doesn't exist until the point of request, so the server strain is then. That said, the strain is very small unless your site gets a lots of hits, but then like any system, more hits = more strain.
    I think that's close anyway :)
