Gearing up a new look for the site and some new content for the hacks/utilities section. I'd like to have a featured listing of high-quality hacks and plugins. The hacks should be clean and utilize the WordPress architecture ($wpdb, my-hacks.php). The new section will be a central place to download files, find well-formatted instructions, and of course promote the hack authors. Hacks that are chosen will be able to promote themselves with an official WP Approved graphic I've made.
Feel free to nominate hacks you wrote yourself or ones you use.
Sweet! I'd be happy to contribute with any of the hacks that I've added to the Wiki. I'll try to clean them up and provide some more instructions on what all of the parameters are used for.

I would also nominate WP Blacklist, WP WAP and WP Mobile Edition. And possibly WP Photos, since so many people seems to ask for such a function and it works like a charm.
CitizenK, I like http://george.e-bulgaria.org/wp-gallery.php more than the standart wp-gallery and wp-photos hacks, perhaps if someone want I can send him the code, because now it uses only php, and no mysql :)
I also nominate wp-blacklist, wp-mobile, wp-stats (it's also alex king's) and can you please make the style switcher optional. If you feel like using it - enable his use, otherwise, you can chose a static style. Strange one click backup does not work on me, perhaps of the server restrictions.

Well rather than putting them in a download section why don't you include the best ones in the wordpress distribution like PEAR which comes with php?
Just an idea...
That is always true, that the very best of the hacks are (eventually) integrated into WP where appropiate. But at the same time, some features are of limited use to the wider WordPress audience so to keep the program from becoming bloated these things might best stay as separate entities.

Hmmm... I notice Alex King has a rather nifty email this entry on his site which I can't seem to find anywhere. Anyone got any idea of whether that is a 1.0.2 compatible hack ? I"ve only just downloaded and switched from Moveable Type. Am currently playing with css in order to get it looking the way I want.... Oh, the thin I *really* love about WordPress is that I can blog away in MacJournal and then post entries to WordPress via xmlrpc and unlike the vast majority of blogging software (MT included), it works and looks as I posted it.
Great job guys. Just trying to figure whether i should use 1.0.2 as is or move to the beta version as it stands now.
ciao !

Alex King
Photo Thing
Is da bling
Photos uploading
whilst blogging
would be the thing
1.3 including
WP Photos in
would make me sing
keep going
Some very nice hacks there, this will come in quite handy. Is the tree menu that Alex King uses a hack/modification or an option feature within WP? If not, I think that would be quite a good addition as an alternative category display.

I'm wondering if there's a hack or code that enables WP to automatically ping trackbacks in linked URL's, like MT does when you write a post.....
Just want to find out if the option to select size of fonts like Alex King's site is available anywhere?
Is it simply having sort of like three stylessheets that are the same and just changing the fonts size in the CSS?
Yes, they just change the font size in the CSS. So, the advisable thing would be to put up the font-sizes inside the <style> & </style> tags & import the rest of the CSS file in it. So you can change the font size easily instead of switching 3 different stylesheets & maintaining them.
i'm sorry, thats just a tad too difficult for my pea brain to grasp.
could you explain more?

A humble plug for a plugin for WP I completed yesterday:
RSS-Feast 1.0b1
A WordPress plugin that serves as a frontend to MagpieRSS and integrates RSS feed reader functionality into templates. Useful for displaying entries from affiliated weblogs or sports news on your own blog!
