Not only is that file costing a lot of hits, it's also taking up a lot of IORead and thus creating a lot of CPU usage. Is there a way to optimize this file? Please help.

Anyone found a fix to this? I had my shared hosting account suspended today because access to this file was chewing up too much CPU resource.

I have no idea how to fix this!

  9. Please all try applying this change to admin-ajax.php:

    http://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/15606

This will ensure that it exits as quickly as possible if there is no action supplied.

It would also be good if you could check the webserver access logs and see if the requests on the file are arriving with no action or with something in the query string.

    Try Joost de Valk's Robot's Meta plugin - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/robots-meta/

set it to not index admin directory.
