wp-admin page displays text only no formatting (9 posts)

I just reinstalled WP on my server and tried to access wp-admin. I get to the page (it doesn't ask me for a login) but all it displays is text on a white screen, no formatting at all and no way to access the functions of the admin page. I'm trying to reactivate an old blog and wanted to use a clean installation of WP (I have the data and can reload it later) but I'm stuck because I can't access a usable wp-admin page.

To be more specific, this is what I see.

Either PHP isn't functioning properly or you could have a handler misconfiguration.

OK, thanks but how do I fix it?

The quickest solution might be to contact your hosts support group and have them walk you through their preferred method for enabling PHP on your web space. They may also have some info in their user FAQ section that can guide you.

That I've done and am awaiting a response. The thing is I've had WordPress installed there for years and just deleted the old blog and am installing a new version (new content) and php was enabled before. So it's pretty baffling to me.

The handler for your version of php may have been in your .htaccess file. If that got deleted when you removed the old site files, that might be causing an issue.

So how do I fix that and what handler do I use? I'm unclear on handlers and need some hand holding on this one.

I definitely recommend contacting someone with server experience, it's a rabbit hole to troubleshoot if you don't know what you're looking for.
