For what it's worth, I'm running the same stack as talkingnews… PHP-FPM on Ubuntu.

My wp-admin was running incredibly slow - at least 5 to 10 seconds per page load - and is now running blazing fast, probably faster than it's running locally!

If WordPress is running on PHP FPM on your host, this is likely the problem that's slowing you down.

Thanks for the great post talkingnews!

Hi JK, whats the site link so I can check it out.

Also you may need to optimize the site.

It could also be clutter in the database, empty tables or junk can have a minor impact on performance as each query needs to search through various tables to collect the data it needs.

You can optimize your database easily.

You may need to increase php memory, create a file called php.ini in your root folder and add memory_limit = 128M you can increase it, but the hosting provider may limit it.

This will assign more php memory and you can check if it has increased by creating another file called phpinfo.php and adding <?php phpinfo(); ?> to the file, save it and run the file by typing your domain/phpinfo.php

Delete it after as it is a security issue, all the information about your php server setup is in there.

It might take 5 - 10 min for the change to be seen on the memory limit but just keep refreshing and scroll down to where it says memory limit.

    Control F5 to correct refresh.

Hope this helps. If not send me an email via my site.

    and ill help you out.

    Hi Horne!
I've done what you told me.. and i'm exactly with the same slow down problem.
This is really a wordpress issue cause everything on my server is working pretty fast, when I change things via FTP the upload is really fast, so i can only think about an wordpress version problem!
