One day my wp-admin bar dissapeared on my site when all ive been doing is adding posts... shows up in admin section but when i view site nothing there except for my listing-reviews section, it works fine. I have tried everything. using WP 3.4.2 MU with 4 sites and seperate themes in each site. http://portlandautoindex.com

the only change im aware of is one day i had a new user and my role got changed to participant? Maybe my site got hacked? cant find anything else wrong.

Signs point to yes. Please read http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked

Do you still have access to your network dashboard? If not, you need to go in via the Database and see who IS the admin.

This is stored in the {prefix}sitemeta table. The meta key is site_admins, and it's a serialized PHP array of usernames.

thanks for the reply, so i was able to log in to the dashboard but what i noticed was the new user was admin and i was now a participant. I was able to change myself back to admin and delete the user. I emailed the user but no response and he never joined again. Does this sound like a bug or intentional?
Have not had any problems since.
note: changed my .htacess file to prevent spam users also.

  4. Intentional. You were hacked.

Read the link, clean your site, change passwords, and scan it well :)

Ok thanks... One more question, How would you perform a scan or your site if this happened to you.

If its in the link you sent me sorry but I just scanned through the link. A lot of that stuff I already knew just thought I would never have to worry about security so never took much interest. I'll change my password and seceret keys and look into incorporating some security script with my theme. Thanks again!!! Merry xmas

  7. You always should worry about security. Doesn't matter what web-tool you use, security is important.

So how can I perform a good scan of my site for this problem?

This is not an easy, simple, one click thing to do.
