[resolved] WP 3.8.1 not showing text on edit pages (7 posts)

Have just installed 3.8.1 and can now no longer edit my pages, they're just completely blank, word count is there and view is OK but visual and text editors show nothing, I can't even get the cursor to show and the menu bar is missing as well.

Tried a new page and same problem, completely blank and no cursor so cannot input any text.

Can anyone help with a reason(s) for this and how to combat it(them)?

Is it possible to re-install 3.8? If so, how?

Using ftp or the file manager your host provides, delete the wp-includes and wp-admin folders. DO NOT touch the wp-content folder.

Download a fresh copy of WordPress. Extract the two folders and upload them to the server.

Many thanks for this but whilst I am not a novice with WP I am only a relative beginner and I don't understand the 2nd paragraph

Part 1 is OK I can delete the 2 folders but the second part I am confused with.

Currently I just upload WP in the "admin" view on my site I don't add or remove anything so can you explain that part in a little more detail please, like an a, b c, guide?

I assume this is to correct the blank page in edit problem?

    Thanks

    Download WP from here, http://wordpress.org/download/
Extract the wp-includes and wp-admin folders.
Upload them to you site using ftp (https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or the file manager provided by your host.

I assume this is to correct the blank page in edit problem?

According to your post is it not completely blank but missing elements. Usually any problem on the back end is caused by JavaScript problems. They can be caused by a corrupted file or a plug-in. Here we are trying to rule out the corrupted file.

OK that was easier than I thought and have done it all, but the edit screen is still completely blank - except for the word count, nothing else in visual or text shows up, even my cream background doesn't show.

Can I roll back to 3.8.0?? If so how do I do that?

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Followed your instructions and deactivated all plugins and everything returned to normal with the edit screen showing what it should.

Started to reactivate the plugins one at a time and all went well until I reached "WP TinyMCE Tables". After reactivating that particular plugin the edit problem recurred. So deactivated it again and all returned to normal, great. So it would definitely appear to be the "WP TinyMCE Tables" plugin.

Have added "WP TinyMCE Tables" to the tag list on here

Many, many thanks for your help, and patience. At last I can now get on with some work updating my site http://www.followthatpath.co.uk
